    The conductor or engineer may have said that they were taking on water in the cab. A lot of intelligence can be lost between a mouth and an ear when a radio may be involved and/or with lots of chaos, confusion, and noise around.

    Interesting that the locomotive has a bottom-shelf coupler. I have never noticed that before, but it seems like some other GE units have this feature.

    Looks like they had quite a bit of speed behind them too judging by all that wreckage.
