    For my weekly update, I hit the "archives". Since I had recently scanned a bunch of GP38-2 photos, I thought I would try something similar, but different. So I present, the GP39-2's! [​IMG]

    Harold - Great comparison shots. I've been interested in building a model of one of these Dash-2s, or a GP39, for a long time. I think they're one of the unique diesels that make CSX interesting. Shouldn't be too difficult a project in HO using Cannon parts to rebuild the hood. Just need to find the time...

    Harold, It's obvious that 4308 came from Guilford ( :mad: ), however whether it was from MEC, B&M, or Springfield Terminal is any one's guess. :confused: Now 4309's remaining paint says "D&H" even to the uninitiated :rolleyes:

    Oh, the depths to which the great and wonderful Northeastern Railroad Companies have fallen ... :eek: :(

    Is 4316 from the Reading? The Green with Yellow striping rings a bell, but I can't place it. [​IMG]

    Actually, none of them from the B&M, MEC or ST. GRS acquired the D&H, which had acquired the Reading and all of their GP39-2s. So the origin of all of them were originally Reading. Most got the D&H repaint, and only a few received Guilford paint.

    As the story goes, NY wouldn't allow Guilford to lease the D&H to the ST (as they had done with the B&M and MEC). So Guilford pillaged the D&H for almost all it's equipment, then dumped it off. Shortly thereafter, they decided they didn't need Dash 2 equipment, and unloaded it all. CP and Conrail ended up with the GP40-2s, while CSX picked up the GP39-2s.

    The GP38-2s from the D&H remained on the system, but the ex B&M GP 38-2s wound up on Conrail as well (except for 1, the B&M 252).

    I thought about attempting to model a GP39 or GP39-2 in N scale. We don't have the luxury of Cannon parts, so I was going to "cheat": using a GP40/40-2. You can make a reasonable representation by removing the 3 radiator fans and replacing them with 2 properly spaced fans. Of course, the engine room doors won't be right and you need to check the radiator grills and dynamic brake housing, but again, in N scale, you can probably get away with it ;)
