    Hello, just wondering.
I saw a CSX engine south of Boston, MA. It looked like a 4 axil U boat but I could be wrong as I did not get a good look at it.
I thought Conrail ruled this area. Do they have some agreement or is it a lend / lease engine?

I'm only a casual rail fan but thought I would ask about this. With luck I'll have the 1 fast pic I took of it's front end, (from the 2nd level of a bi level commuter car).

Conrail was split up and bought by CSX and Norfolk Southern. There still is a company called conrail, but it is jointly owned by CSX and NS and amounts to a bunch of shortlines.

I don't remember exactly when this occured or who got what, though.

Steve, When Conrail was split, CSX took over most, if not all of the old New York Central and New Haven properties that Amtrak, MBTA, and Metro-North had not already purchased years ago. This included the Boston & Albany west from Boston, and the New Haven freight lines on the South Shore that Conrail still owned. There are probably more fine details that I'm not aware of, but that's the gist of it.

I am sure you can see CSX engines almost anywhere across the U.S....

Thanks guys, I've been out of the hobby so long I did not realize what had happened. I even missed the western mergers but was able to pick up from various comments what had happened.
    Thanks again.
