Each year, AAR presents the award for quality to an origin terminal and destination terminal. This is only the second time a Class I railroad has received both, according to AAR, which honored the TDSI facilities on June 9 at the virtual 2021 AAR Damage Prevention & Freight Claim Conference. The TDSI Strawberry Yard (Louisville, Ky.) earned the Origin Terminal of the Year Award with a 99.69% audit score for its work loading new Ford and Toyota vehicles manufactured in the region. TDSI Palm Center (Jupiter, Fla.) won the Destination Terminal of the Year award with a 99.98% audit score for its work offloading Honda, General Motors, Chrysler and Nissan vehicles bound for local dealerships. The honorees were chosen based on the results of quality review audits at approximately 180 automotive origin and destination terminals across the country, according to CSX. The audits cover hundreds of items related to facility policy and procedures and conditions, with an emphasis on safe operations and damage prevention, the railroad said. “This is an outstanding accomplishment that reflects on the standard of excellence demonstrated by our teams across the TDSI network,” CSX Vice President of Automotive and Intermodal Maryclare Kenney said. “We’re proud to be able to serve our customers at such a high level during what has been a particularly challenging time for the auto industry.” “The unannounced audits take about half a day to complete, but our terminals have to be committed to quality every single day throughout the year to maintain the high standards reflected by the audit results,” TDSI General Manager Bryce Thomas said. Kenney and Thomas credited the leadership of TDSI Regional Operations Managers Jim Hull and Mike Herman for the Strawberry Yard and West Palm facilities’ performance.
