WHITE MARSH, Md. (AP) -- Baltimore County police say a man was struck and killed by a C-S-X train in the White Marsh area this afternoon. It happened shortly before 2 p-m at Allender Road and the C-S-X tracks. Police say the victim died at the scene. Investigators are still trying to figure out what happened. A C-S-X spokesman says the train had two locomotives and 37 cars. It was heading from Florida to New Jersey. ==>Turns out the man had been drinking and had either passed out or fell asleep on the tracks. He was unable to get off the tracks in time. This happened along the Philadelphia Sub, in an area that I railfan in.
A railroader friend of mine mentioned one such incident while on an excursion trip in UP 3985. He noted it was a mess (literally and figuratively) and not only held the RR up for hours, it also ain't easy on the crew. And they are helpless to prevent it. My condolences and prayers to the grieving family...
He may've been a transient, so there might not be a family. It held up CSX traffic along that stretch because the police had to investigate.
