Hey Guys - I just finished my Curtis Hobbies 24' Matson container and chassis kit. Well it turned out great! I added the mudflaps, cross braces and a landing gear crank with some bits of Styreen Angle, strip and brass wire.

The decals are American Limited 6230 - I don't think the numbers are exactly correct, but under the container it's really hard to tell. But you can easily see the Matson logo [IMG]

    Rob,
An excellent job the weathering makes the whole model look so much more real.

How did you get that effect?

At the rate Alan is going on these conversions kits of his....geez, you might as well say "corner the modern era market!"

You guys amaze me, I will always have respect for N, But I think I will keep my insanity and the preminition that I am not good with small things and my eyes will be gone when I am a lot older and save up for the house that is going to be the home of a monster!

Wait a second now...WHAT SCALE ARE THESE????!!!!!

The weathering technique is very simple to do but time consuming. The 'trick' is to use many layers of very thin paint applied with brush.

Model Flex Rust and Grimy black were used.

The first layers are done with a larger brush. I don't use specific ratios of water to paint but dip the brush in water and then paint or paint and then water to control the concentration. A paper towel is handy to absorb a large amount of the paint so you don't put too much on in one go. As the layers build I switch to a smaller brush with a higher concentration of paint.

A wash of grimy black on top helps to reduce some of the starkness. I actually went back before the grimy black with the original antique white to reduce the effect in a couple areas that I thought were too heavy.

Many thin layers - that's the trick. Build it up slowly. And keep a prototype photo handy for reference so you are putting the rust in realistic spots.

Hows about some 53' container chassis?
A JB Hunt style one (narrower neck i'm told) would be nice to go with the new Athearn hunt boxes (which are georgeous!)

Whilst somebody might someday do a 53' chassis in plastic I doubt they will do the Hunt version.

    Just a thought [IMG]
