    What consists did the CZ get hauled by,a nd in what time frames? I know the CZ was hauled by F3's, PA's, prolly F7's and F9's as well. I would like to know, since I have an N scale CZ set on the way, and need engines to pull it.

    Jason,
    Fire away! I'd love to have few new books. By far, my favorite if RC Farewell's 'Rio Grande Secret Places'.

    Hemi, I have a couple of books that might interest you if you can find them.
    One is called, "CZ - The Story of the California Zephyr" by Karl Zimmermann. It's a softcover book, about 104 pages with some really nice b&w photos,as well as a lot of Grande photos that you might like and even car plans. It also has descriptions of interior colors and the history of the train. My copy was something like $20.
    The other book I have is called "Zephyr Thru The Rockies" by Harold Edmonson and David Goodheart. It's a hard cover which covers more of the Rio Grande Zephyr, but has some beautiful photos of the Zephyr and the scenery the train ran through. I bought it when I was planning on modeling the D&RGW many years ago. At the time, it cost me about $40.

    Jere,
    John's two books are highly recommended especially Zepher thru the Rockies,after searching for ages I finally just found/bought one on *-bay for about $55us,also will add;

    Portrait of a Silver Lady by Bruce MacGregor &Ted Benson,comes in a slip & tends to be pricey 'if' you can find it.

    Never on Wednesday by Richard Loveman & Mel Patrick.Excellent soft cover,lots of great photo's/locations but all B/W which is a shame.

    I'am still looking for a decent set of Secret Places my self.
    If your after DRGW books well just to start with I'd have to recommend;

    Rio Grande in Colour 1,2,3.By James Sandrin (Morningsun Books)Excellent set of reference books,all colour,hard cover.

    Rio Grande Diesels 1,2,3.By Joseph A. Strapac
    Another set of must have for reference etc,although all B/W.

    Rio Grande colour guide to frieght & pass. eq. By Jim Eagar (Morning Sun books)another must have.

    D&RGW Colour Pictorial.Vol.1. P.Allen Copeland. (Four Ways West Pubs.) standard gauge steam/diesel transition era.

    Southern Pacific in Transition.By Bill Shippen & Joe Shine (Four Ways West Pubs.)
    Excellent reference for SP & DRGW,lots of great colour shots & heaps of info.

    Hope this helps Jeremiah,sorry if I long winded but good books are an interest of mine.

    It's okay Jason. We have not banned the word "eBay" here. I am not sure why people think they cannot say that here. :confused:

    Jason, two of my favorite (favourite? [IMG] ) photos are in Zephyr Thru The Rockies:the pages 72-73 shot of the Rio Grande Zephyr westbound through the Flatirons of the Frontrange and pages 26-27 of the Zephyr westbound at Pulga. Two gorgeous photographs!

    John,I must agree with you on pages 72-73!I think pg 81 & 11 really sums it up for me,was surprised how much info I could find on the WP in this book too.I have long wanted to do a modual or part of a layout in regards to pg 71,that great big ridge of red sandstone & the talas slope in the middle with the tunnel going right through all of it,amazing!
    Jere,did I mention this is a must have book? [IMG] ,I have seen this site on 'e-bay' ,but I'm just a tight a*% & looking for a better deal,thanxs for the link.

    Yep, those are all good books, I have all of the above plus:

    Rio Grande Trackside with Jim Ozment by James Sandrin

    Rio Grande: Ruler of the Rockies by R.C.Farewell

    Rio Grande: Scenic Line of the World by Dale Sanders.

    As for Rio Grande Secret Places, I have volume 2 and it isn't my favorite for pictures.. pictures are "muddy" and taken from far away. R.C. Farewell isn't really the best photoprapher IMHO.

    I must agree with you Jim regarding Secret Places 1-2,from what I've seen all B/W! what a disappointment.
    I have those three books plus a few more,Jim Ozment's book was very interesting from a maintenance point of view!
    One more book I'll add & it's abit of an odd ball but still great info & photo's is,

    "Crossroads of the West" 50 yrs of rr'ing in Utah.by Blair Kooistra,Jim Belmont & Dave Gayer.Pentrex books.

    B/w, yes, but so waht? I have gone out to 70% of those shots, and recreated them in color! All the more reason to visit the area. I'm tellin' ya, you NEED that Secret Places book! Hit the link I had above, with Book train on ebay. You won't be disappointed! It is an RC Farewell book, BTW.
