I have once again read where the Dash 7's will probably become "extinct" due to GE's planned discontinuance of producing certain parts. Has anyone else heard anything about this? Harold
I don't know, I'm not surprized that that would happen, most fo the -7's are almost 20 years out of production. I did see Ex-Conrail ??C36-7??#7136 with GP38-2 #2676
I am not really surprised... I think CSX already purged itself of its U boats many years ago, and their -7's, starting with the B23-7's, and then the C30-7's. Funny they inherited more -7's from CR Harold
OOh some of them shortlines may buya couple of those GE's the rest will probably be sent to the scrap.
I've always liked the -7s, especially the B36s and C30s. I hope they'll be around for a few more years. I especially liked seeing the sets of 2 B36-7s and 2 GP40-2s that used to pull TOFC piggyback trains. From a modeling standpoint, I've decided to cut off my modeling around the 1999/2000 timeframe, because I feel that CSX had a great variety of paint schemes and diesels to offer the modeler in the mid- to late-'90s. I'm definitely jealous of your N-scalers with the new Atlas B30-7s and B36-7s out in N. I hope Atlas offers these in HO, although I heard they weren't excited about how the U23Bs and C30-7s sold in HO. Have a great week folks!
Dave, I remember back around 1985 (when the "S" Line still went through Raleigh) watching the hotshot TOFC trains race through town with 2 or 3 Seaboard System B36-7's as power. (ah yes, the good old days... ) As far as N scale, yes we are (finally) getting lucky with all of the loco releases. I am not sure how well the U23B's sold in N scale either... I had a pair, but was not satisfied with their performance (too light and weak). I currently have a pair of DCC B23-7's in Southern that are absolutely beautiful, well detailed locos to look at, but are very loud and also seem underpowered. Maybe I need to take them apart and work on 'em Harold
I know my beloved 7078, a C30-7, was retired this past summer. Hard to see a good friend go. Seemed like whenever I was out I'd hear of or see 7078 somewhere nearby.
Gee, sorry to hear that Brian,,,, would this make you feel any better, seeing # 7079 still working at the end of January 2002? Harold
