I would like to find some organizational dates for the D&H:

When did the D&H Company, become the D&H Railroad Corporation?

When did the D&H RR Corp become the D&H Railway Company?

Hey Darren, good to hear from you once again.
Hope you'll be around now to share all your D&H info with us.
I recently visited your website for the first time, and just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed all those loco shots. They were a big help in a little research project I was doing. Keep up the good work!

So far I have found this reference: (Jim Shaughnessy - The Delaware & Hudson)

In 1930 the Delaware & Hudson Railroad Corporation was set up to take over all the railroad properties formally operated by the Delaware & Hudson Co. Thus the railroad became a wholly-owned subsidary of the parent company, along with the Hudson Coal Co., the Greenwich & Johnsonville Railway, the Napierville Junction Railway, the steamboat companies, the Chateaugay Ore & Iron Co., the hotels and sundry other holdings. The officers of all were essentially the same.

Still digging for the exact date/year but found this that makes it Pre-1982 anyway

The Batten Kill Railroad Company is a 35 mile, class III short line railroad. We purchased and assumed operation of 35 miles of the former Delaware & Hudson Railway in rural Washington county, New York in August 1982.

I have the 1973 D&H 150th year anniversary timetable and it is Delaware and Hudson Railway Company.
1823 - 1973
C. B. Sterzing, Jr. is listed as President and Chief Executive Officer. The timetable is No. 3 and is effective 0201 Hrs EST, Sunday April 29, 1973.
I can scan the cover if anyone would like to see it.

I asked my friends over at Yahoo! Groups: dandh and I received this is the responces so far:

June 1, 1968 I think. This is when the D&H and the EL became the components of Dereco which was a wholly owned subsidiary of what was then the N&W.

Close. It was July 1, 1968. EL had gone into Dereco on April 1, 1968. Nothing much changed, at first, on the D&H, but at the end of 1968 the D&H had made a profit of something over $2 Million. It all went to Dereco/N&W as a stock dividend. No more capital expenditures for the D&H from then on. Then came the ill-fated attempt to combine EL and D&H management, which lasted until 1972 when the EL entered bankruptcy, and Bruce Sterzing did his best to make the D&H a railroad again.

The old Delaware and Hudson Railroad Corporation became Champlain National Corporation, and the Delaware and Hudson Company, which owned the Railroad Corporation, became Champlain National Company.

It's amazing just how involved, how complicated some corporate histories are! Once you start digging into their background, all sorts of events come into light.

I hope to have this type of Timeline information on my site since the D&H history is filled with all sorts of mergers, etc. dating back to the D&H CC days to the CP days of today. It will read like a Fallen Flags who's who including Mines, Hotels & Steamship companies.
