I thought I would drop everyone a note to let you know that the rebuild of the DHVM is nearly complete. At this point I'm filling in "summary information" based on books and the information I find posted here as well as from the Historical Societies such as BLHS and other D&H forums. At this point if you find information that is incorrect or missing please let me know so I can make the needed adjustments. If you use the dhvm@rrmail.com email address, please make sure the Subject Line begins "DHVM Question" as I get allot of SPAM at that email account and filer 99% to the trash can automatically based on Subject line not containing this. Once if have my "clean-up" work done I hope to be once again expanding the site with all the images that so many of you have made available plus those that I have been obtaining over the years as well. If I can obtain all the space from the images that I currecntly have access to the site will increase by 5x at least mainly from the Steam Era as I work slowing backwards in time. Happy Holidays and as always THANK YOU for your help and support...
Hi Darren; Sorry to learn the images are not working at the moment, I'll be sure to check back later.
Lenny- Nice picture. Can you tell me a little about it? I'm not familiar with the D&H roster. The boxy structure on top of the long hood looks like a modfication. What is that? Is it something to do with a dynamic brake? Boxcab E50
Hi Boxcab; The unit is an RS-36 and is seen leaving Montreal at CP location North Junction and is headed towards NY state over D&H subsidiary Napierville Junction. Your are right about the dynamic brake structure but is it a factory feature and not an after market one. Cheers, Lenny
Below is what D&H #18 looks like as of just a few weeks ago. It's not D&H anymore; but, if you saw what it look like before Doyle steps in it's 1000% better. He also has #16 that will be restored to SF (w/o Engine); but #18 will be his personal working engine.
For those that might not remember, this is how I found #18 on March 2000 as it and #16 were just crossing the border of Mexico to head to Doyle's work shop in Albany, OR More Images can be found at: DHVM PA's Return
Lenny- Thanks for the answer on that ALCo! Darren- What will Doyle be using for the prime mover, etc? Will that part of the loco essentially be as the original once was built? Boxcab E50
Boxcab: That's an interesting question. The PAs were orignally built with 244s but the D&H had MK rebuild them using 251s. I would think 251s are easier to come by these days. Lenny
I remember reading about this project in TRAINS magazine. Is the PA now totally restored and operational?
This is the prime mover being removed from it's donor. I think it's a wrecked BC-Rail M430 B unit? http://www.nkp190.com/scans/CraneDay/CraneDay004.jpg Not quite original but it should still sound Alco!
