Wow! That railfan was probably happy with his photo shoot and went to grab him a drink and then he heard the dreaded noise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thats nuts huh? Looks like they went on the ground right at the signal. Am I seeing that right? Maybe a gauge or track anchor issue? That train stopped pretty quick, and with minimal cars derailed and damage behind the power, Slow speed helped there, I am just glad it stopped before the derailed power hit that next span on the bridge, no telling what might have happened there. Tracks have insulated joints at signals, so the possibilities multiply quickly, no reason to think the crew was injured or in danger. they prolly got a nasty case of the "whys" though.
I bet that crew was glad the engines didn't roll off the bridge. What a ride that must have been. Clean up is underway and can be seen on the live cam now.
You can hear sound as it begins to happen. Almost like their wheels hit something. Perhaps a break or other rail damage.
As bad as that derailment was, it's nowhere near as bad as all that ugly graffiti on the cars. The CR car almost escaped it. I am glad the train stayed on the bridge. Doug
After getting home and looking at a bigger screen, It looks like they went on the ground @ 1:04 in the close up view, you can hear every axle of the units hit the ties. This is nuts. It is incredible they stopped in 5-6 cars. It would have been quite a ride, cant believe everything stay up-right, wow. Crazy stuff happens in derailments. No place for side booms there huh?
