If you didn't make it this year, shame on you! The Carl Sandburg College-Galesburg Railroad Days Model Train Show was a HUGE SUCCESS! Turn out was strong even though it rained most of the day, Saturday. Harry, A.K.A: Little Giant, will fill you in on the actual body count for both days. As far as Model Railroad layouts, I counted 3 N-Trak Layouts, 3 Regular N-Scale Layouts, 1 Zeed (Z) Scale layout, 1 027 Lionel set-up, 1 O-Scale with live steam, 2 HO-Scale moduler Layouts, a HO Scale "Ferry" display and some "Foot and a Half" (I think) Gauge Live Steam out side on the only day it didn't rain, Sunday. Venders were EVERYWHERE! If you were looking for something and couldn't find it, it was because you waited too long and it was sold out! (It happened to me! [IMG]) The high lights for me were the N-Trak Layouts! (Go figure, I'm an N-Scaler and N-Traker.) Clubs included our N-Trak of Bloomington-Normal, IL. Modules with a fine couple from St. Louis setting up with us.(THANKS!) Heritage N-Trak Group from Joilet, IL. setting up with DaytoN-Trak, Dayton, OH.(The Largest of the three N-Trak Layouts) that had some really neat animation. My favorite of theirs was the Locomotive Scrap Yard. Best operating railyard honers went to Northwest N-Trak of Palitine, IL. nice layout and a SUPER yard! Another group set up with them but I can't remember their name.(I'm like that sometimes [IMG]...) Next year we are concidering setting up all the N-Trak layouts up in the same area and hooking them together using oNe-Trak or TwiN-Trak junctions. LOOK OUT! I invite others how attended to add their thoughts on the Model Train show at Galesburg, IL. here. I give it on a scale of 0 to 10, a 9.5 due to the weather. Any thoughts or comments about the events at the Downtown or Railyard Locations should probably be posted on the "Steam RailFanning & RailFanning Events" forum. Pics of some of what went on at the Model Train show will be posted here soon! FYI! This show happens the last weekend of EVERY June. If you are planning on attending the events next year, make your reservations in the Galesburg, IL. area NOW! The longer you wait, the greater the chance you won't get a place nearby! "And that's a fact, Jack!" [IMG] GREAT JOB Little Giant! [IMG]

As promised here's the body count.

Saturday, 2,124 men, women and children moved through the main door. There were an estimated 75 or so that were admitted via various side doors just to get them inside and out of the downpour. Let's round it off to 2,200.

Sunday saw 1,000 through the gate, if we assume that all of the 30 people who bought two day passes on Saturday returned to get full value from their $5.00 expendature.

This gives us a total of 3,200 attendence a nice upward move from last years 3,008.

Still cannot determine if Saturdays rain worked for or against us.

Door prizes (well over 100 of them) will get mailed tomorrow (Thursday).

I will post some kind of financial rap up as soon as all the bills are received from the media in which we placed ads.

I will also give a breakdown of attedence based on an analysis of those who submitted door prise entries.

We were quite pleased by the two charter buses that showed up unexpectedly. One from Kalamazoo, Mi and a group of 19 railfans from Great Britain who included Galesburg Railroad Days in their 10 day tour of Midwestern Railfan Highlights. We knew about the bus from Madison, Wi sponsored by the NMRA.

Again, many thanks to all who attended and as Brent said in his post. Start making your plans now for Galesburg Railroad Days, 2001.

Galesburg Railroad Days Train Show, Wrap up.

The dust (mud) has settled and the accounts squared up on the 2000 Galesburg Railroad Days Train Show at Carl Sandburg College.

Train Show attendence totaled 3,205 which was 120 more than last year.

72% were from outside the local area.

Total of 19 exhibits of both model railroads and a railroad history nature.

65 vendors from 13 different states, with 234 tables of merchandise.

After all expenses were paid, the Scholarship Foundation of Carl Sandburg College is $10,700 better off. This makes the total Train Show contribution to the Scholarship Fund over the last six years of $51,000!

Isn't it great what a bunch of folks who like to "play trains" can accomplish while doing their thing?

Once again, many thanks to all organizations and individuals who helped out in some way or other, or just attended, we couldn't have done it without you.

Mark those calenders now for Galesburg Railroad Days June 23rd & 24th, 2001.

Thanks for the Grand totals "Uncle Harry"! I was railfanning Sunday from Ancona, Edelstein and Galesburg along the old "ATSF" and some of the old "Q" north of Galesburg. The last train of the day was the California Zephyr north of town. We went downtown and lost our light before the next train rolled in. Got back to Lincoln after 11:00pm. I'll have some pics to post on the BNSF site as soon as I get them processed!
