It was reported on the N scale AOL message board that the Bachmann 2-8-0 drivers are a drop fit for the Kato 2-8-2 drivers right down to the gearing. The only difference is thathathe Bachmann drivers are powered thru the 2nd and third drivers and the Kato powered drivers are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Spo what is this worth? I don't know but if someone wants to build a decapod like in the N scale mag series maybe the the Bachmann drivers mightt be available longer or cheaper than the Kato. Also might be a good starting point for a compound or articulated.
Like I said "For what its worth."

Maybe this has something to do with Bachmans model having such slow speed control. Kato has definately found the art to designing and creating a gear system that is second to none in slow speed control and over all conrtol which makes sence for Bachman.......learn from the best......(or copy :D )

    Thanks for the info!

Glad you bought that up. I may try to build my own "russian". Then, when I am finished with it, someone will announce they are going to make one!

Mike, I would not be surprised if a Russian was to be Bachmann's next N-Steamer. They just started delivering an HO-Russian. Consider that their new N-Consolidation looks similar to the HO-Consolidation they brought out a few years ago .... who knows
