This is interesting stuff @ZosoRailway . Here's a larger map done sometime during the road's ownership by the B&O. I put an arrow at the location of the giant Arthur Kill lift bridge. From what I read, passenger trains currently run between St. George and Tottenville.

    SI RR.jpg

The SIRT interchanged with the LV, Rahway Valley and CNJ in the same area. The CNJ interchange was made at Cranford Jct. as seen at the extreme left edge of the map, protected by Excee (XC) Tower. I shot this almost 40 years ago in March 1983. It was demolished in the early 1990s.

    Arthur Kill Vertical Lift Bridge

On October 4, 2007, New York Container Terminal, which operates Howland Hook, announced the opening of on-dock rail service called ExpressRail via the bridge, with regular service by Conrail (CRCX), CSX and Norfolk Southern railroads. In 2013, Covanta Energy signed a contract with the New York City Sanitation Department to barge containers of solid waste from transfer stations in Queens and Manhattan to New York Container Terminal where they will be transferred to rail cars for shipment to Covanta waste to energy plants.

Arthur Kill is an important ship channel. The bridge is normally kept in the raised position (open to shipping), lowering to allow the passage of trains. As of 2018, U.S. Coast Guard regulations limit lowering the bridge to two 15-minute periods per day, with advance warning and restrictions on lowering during high tide. Conrail, which services Staten Island with one train a day, has stated that they do not see this limitation affecting current rail traffic levels, but it could become a problem if traffic increases significantly

From your intense knowledge of this topic, I am guessing that you intend to recreate some or all of this rail action into Z scale either from a specific era in the past or modern. If so, I see alot of 3D fabrication and/or scratch building in your future. Will enjoy your progress through photos, especially the lift bridge.

Is this thread drifting quite far away from 1:220 z scale modeling? May i suggest that this should be moved to some of the other forum categories that fits the 1:1 and sim topic?
