I thought they were called RS-3u's. Since they were upgraded to 2000 HP. I also thought it was an awful thing to do to such a well proportioned locomotive as the RS-3. But that is just my opinion . Thanks for the pictures. I live in Oneonta, and miss the old D&H. Frank
Unlike many RS rebuilds, I actually like these. (At least as long as they're in lightning stripe - solid blue is just ugly.) They remind me of the DL535E, an old favorite.
I once thought that too but I have since been corrected from another D&H Railfan that got the inside scoop directly from some D&H employees I did manage to track down some former D&H railroad employees ( both shop and road ). The proper designation according to the D&H roster listing is RS-3m. Apparently, the "u" designation is similar in usage to "phase" - both of which were invented by journalists / modelers to differentiate changes during a production run of a specific unit. Maybe not the case for other railroads, but for the D&H, it's m - not u . :angel: :angel: :angel: :angel:
