And weren't they traded back? I remember having seen a shot of a D&H engine - I think it was an SD45 - in an obviously ex-EL scheme. The maroon stripe had been changed to blue.
What's a SD dash 45 (some EMD marketing manuals had general arrangements drawings showing the model number with a dash, while the text info showed none... the drawings were later revised with no dash)
The history of these engines Previously EMD Demonstrator Renumbered Delaware and Hudson Later EL / Swapped for U33C Returned to Delaware and Hudson Sold 1978 (Mexico)
My records show this #801 - EMD Demonstrator #4354, swapped for U33C #3301 #802 - EMD Demonstrator #4352, swapped for U33C #3302 #803 - EMD Demonstrator #4353, swapped for U33C #3303
Where the SD45s just used in general service or did they have a specific application the D&H liked to use them on? It seems strange just to get 3 unless it was just because they were super cheap
Delaware & Hudson SD45,U30C,U33c and Eire Lackawanna SD45,SDP45,SD45-2,U33c units were supplied by Derelco a locomotive leasing subsidary of Norfolk and Western who was the owner of the equipment. The equipment was leased to both companies to protect N&W/Wabash/Nickel Plate Northeast traffic during the Penn Central time frame. The N&W /Wabash was also using the Lehigh Valley for New York connection at Oak Island via Buffalo. No Derelco leasing was involved with the valley only run thru and spot leasing. Some of the SDP45 units ended up on the Southern Pacific
