    U Boats

Gotta love them classic U Boats. Here on the west coast they weren't very plentiful. SP kept theirs in California and points east of Los Angeles. BN kept their U Boats in the midwest as did UP. The Milwaukee Road had several in Washington state and sometimes various models of U Boats made it to Portland.
My private road has ten U Boats U28B, U30B, & U33B units. Some others too.

Ah but WP's U23 and U30 B's were system wide and pooled into the northwest on the BN. :D SP did run their U33C's through the California Central Valley with regularity.

Forgot about the late WP. Yes they did run with BN units on trains 137 & 138 down the Oregon Trunk. Mostly it was GP35 and GP40's with an occasional GE.
The Milwaukee U-boats were usually "B" boats but the U33C and U36C's did make it into Portland.
Only once did I ever catch Espee's U-boats in Portland. One afternoon a four unit set of U33C's came into Brooklyn Yard. They left a few hours later and I never saw anymore after that. Have photos though on colour slides. Maybe in his next update on SP Nor-Cal site John will have the photos.

Looks great, Darren. Apart from the trucks it seems to be freshly painted.
Could you tell me the date of that photo, roughly?

Mike, I don't know the date of when that photograph was take nor when it was renumbered from 304 to 2304. What I do know, it was built in 1968 and sold in 1983. At some point is was listed on the GTI Roster as a Maine Central. If you come across images in their GTI paint that I can post on the DHVM please let me know.
