Might see if I can make a runway like one that was shown at a show and I think it was a T-Trak module? It looked cool, that is for sure. Will have to paint it Black and see what or if I can pull this off Yeah I know, the GA aircraft barely fit. Imagination I say
Oooo great idea! I'd do it somewhat less dark than pure blacktop. Mist it lightly with gray primer, then you can put some tire skid marks at each end of the runway. Artistic license.
If I did one, it would have to be a grass strip. That's what there was whwere I grew up. There was a hangar, an office and an outhouse, which was stolen one year by the seniors for the annual homecoming bonfire (this was a tradition, but they hadn't realized this one was still in use and had to build a new one. On the plus side, the ag teacher had them building sheds, so they knew how and did a decent job. It lasted for years).
@Mike VE2TRV @RailMix you have given me another idea with your suggestions. Make it an area that can change, from grey strip to grass strip for GA aircraft. I originally had roadbed and track there, so I can do that. Then even maybe make it a construction area, a long park, etc... So that part of the diorama can be changed out for different scenes. I like the ideas. Keep them coming. Of course it so narrow there is actually no where to park the aircraft, so that where the imagination has to come in We will see how it works out, or if it works out?
Make it part of an air park where people have the hangers at their house and they can fly in and out from their house.. Sumner
A old Federal Express plane that is completely out of scale, made an emergency landing It should be bigger then the GA aircraft And IF there are any cars on the street closest to said FedEx aircraft, well, that's not good for them. Actually for both of them. Once again, imagination is in play here
Use a small wire or clear plastic tube and raise the plane up to make it look as if it’s just landing or taking off. Navigation lights would be a fun addition. Just thinking out loud.
Great idea although that is above my talents at this point Basically just messing around and pretending, which we model railroaders do often. I swear the WS Ice Cream truck is dishing out real ice cream, in my mind anyway
....and put a round, thin piece of clear plastic in place of the propeller with blurred lines-looks like the prop is spinning at take-off!
Here is your mockup grass strip Just a rough mockup. but the ideas here are fun All suggestions are just quick things I can do. Maybe I can make little scenes somehow I can change out, for the airstrip? I'm not really good at scenery though. This should be simple, ducks and runs for cover! I do dig the fact that you can actually read the aircraft numbers on this tiny thing. I need to order some more of these Osborn Models. Mainly cause some parts, the landing gear is extremely brittle and easy to break! I also need the floats for one of them! I am going to try ALL the ideas posted here, TRY!
Navigation lights, spinning propeller, hang in the air like it is flying. Obviously people here aren't aware of my mediocre talents Next it will install a REAL 160 engine in those there aircraft Still, hit me with these crazy ideas, but I am not promising anything!
Must be nice to be so rich you own two GA planes and the airport right across the road...geeez! Well it's not an airpark, but just rich people! Luckily there were no vehicles on the road. Wonder how that happened These are mockups I say...! You also have to pretend there are ramps for them to cross the road for their aircraft to make it to the privately owned airport!
I remember an episode of CSI Miami where there was a neighborhood where they were all private pilots and had a garage facing the street and a small hangar/shelter for their planes facing the airstrip just behind the back yard. To cross the street is another can of worms. Inattentive or intoxicated drivers, traffic jams, a big semi truck parked right in front offloading a house full of furniture, the city deciding to dig a hole so they can fill it up again, etc. Give them their own traffic light, or better (at least cooler), a crossing similar to a level crossing for trains, with bells, flashing lights, and gates!
