Hi everyone. I´m a 42 year old guy from Spain and I´m about to finish my first layout.

I first got into Z scale around 1982-83 when I bought a starter set (ref. 8165); used to run my train for several years but years went by and I abandoned it.

Six months ago I decided to start again and began building the layout. It´s not very big: 166 cms x 48 cms (65,3 x 18,8 inches, Is it right?) as I live in a small flat with wife and two kids. I´ve installed two System Joërger uncouplers and all the turnouts are manual controlled.

I´ve tried to represent a german quarry from the end of Era III and the beginning of Era IV.

Tracks and rolling stock come from Märklin since Germany is near and prices are better. There are also no custom taxes (European Union, you know).

    It´s not finished yet...

Hope you like it and please be indulgent

Nice start for sure, are you using a hollow core door as a base or foam?

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

As a base I´ve used a 10 mm thick okume plywood mounted screwed to wood strips because the layout must be hung from the wall when not in use...

Looks really interesting! I like the thought of giving an entire layout/section to one scene/industry like that. Great work!
Do you have any photos of how you installed the uncouplers?

    Thank you so much.

No, sorry. I didn´t take pictures of how the way the uncouplers were installed but here you are some pics and videos from a spanish Z forum friend

    http://www.escala-z.com/forum.

The uncoupler must be screwed to the base so the black plates are leveled with the track. The downside is that you need to glue a small metal piece to the Marklin couplers...But it works fine.

Nice layout! I like the uncoupling magnets, are thes compatibel with MTL magne matic couplers?
I have converted all my Märklin european rolling stock to MTL couplers to be able to switch. (although still challaging with Märklin 3-polers).
See next link to an old article announcement in the German magazin Miba. http://www.miba.de/miba/97/11/52.htm The picture shows the difference. Although the knuckle couplers are prototypical for Eurpean rolling stock, it look much better.

    Thanks Rowan an ZFrank.

I don´t know exactly if they are compatible with MTL...but you can ask Mr. Jörger here: http://www.system-joerger.de/

You can write your question in English because he´s able to read it but he uses to reply in German (I don´t know exactly the reason why)

That is a nicely done layout. I like how you designed the track to go behind the backdrop. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot. It´s a pity I´ve got no room enough for a bigger layout...

    Howdy from Texas.
Verrry nice looking layout. It ROCKS!!! (pun intended)

I once built a corner module for an HO modular layout based on Granite Mountain in Texas. I don't have pix scanned or loaded on railimages at this moment, maybe I can get some up.

Bienvenido to Trainboard, and happy railroading.
