My only trip to Utah, to railfan at least....photo taken near Castlegate...
DRGW 5383 (SD40T-2) leads a manifest through the canyon. Taken April 1984.

that is a great area!!! went through there last summer (pity it was a sunday morning and not much was moving), didn't get any shots of trains going ( a little hard to drive and snap pics on those curves), but a memorable day none-the-less!! great shots!

Did you notice how the tracks are spread out quite a ways apart? I think that is to prevent a derailment on any one track from blocking the other two. It makes it easier and quicker to clear away bent cars etc.

IF I CAN GET THEM DUG OUT I'VE GOT A COUPLE OF PRETTY DECENT SHOTS OF SOME OF THE TUNNEL ENTRANCES (W/O A TRAIN REGRETTABLY), BUT STILL A GREAT SHOT FOR SCENICING!

Ya know, I never thought about taking shots of tunnel portals on the Moffat route... I sure saw enough of them; 1, 2, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 27, 29, East Portal.
