Can anyone tell me if the Chicago and Southeastern Railroad was an EJ&E predecessor? If so, when did it become a part of the EJ&E?
It was part of a merger that occurred on December 30, 1938, as a leased subsidiary of a line merged into the EJ&E. A neat historical essay here: http://www.ejearchive.com/page_rrhistory.html
Interesting page. Digging deeply into what he wrote, the Chicago and Southeastern Railroad was leased by the Calumet & Blue Island RR, July of 1894. In turn, the C&BIRR was merged into the Chicago, Lake Shore & Eastern Railway on February 7, 1897. Looking at the style of Form I have, this fits. There was a lot of such activity in that time period, a good amount of that was unfluenced by ongoing fallout from the Panic of 1893.
It was an interesting read for me in terms of one company leasing another which was, in turn, leasing others. A kind of convoluted merger process. Also a slow (cautious?) process of actually changing ownership. Is the form actually the blue shade it shows?
