On this day in 1929, the Empire Builder was inaugurated with it's first run, so Happy "75th" Birthday!! :cake:
I remember the "celebration" they had a couple of years ago, at Whitefish. A few RR folks. And a few government people being paid to goof around for the day. Hardly any locals knew it was going on. :rolleyes2: Boxcab E50
Kurt and Ken, this really has nothing to do with the anniversary, but thought you might like to see GN F-7 274 in action yesterday at Lake Oswego, OR.
Oh yes!! A picture showing the world what a real diesel looks like! In a real heritage paint scheme.   Boxcab E50
It was before my time, but man, that is beautiful. Arguably one of the classiest schemes applied to any loco.
Really nice photo Fitz. And BoxcabE50 I liked it "...a real diesel .....In a real heritage paint scheme." Are locos in this paint scheme and of this age in service these days?
Unfortunately, none. The F unit as pictured, is privately owned. There are no paint schemes that replicate this appearance. Boxcab E50
For the enjoyment of Great Northern fans, here is another, shot just a few seconds later. Passing through a railroad grade crossing in the urban renewed section of Lake Oswego, OR.
