i am a train driver in the u.k. and i would like to know whether there are any companies in the u.s. looking for qualified drivers .i have been in the rail industry for a number of years and currently drive high speed trains into london.i work for virgin trains but have no knowledge of the american rail network and therefore do not know where to start or which companies i should try to contact.

There are probably some differences in requisites. You'd certainly have to requalify as a locomotive engineer. For passenger service, all there will be is Amtrak.

As Bill has suggested, check the company web sites. All the major companies, and many of the smaller ones have pages, and might show employment opportunities.

One thing to note- For the major companies, expect to locate where they need you. And move a few times. You'll likely be away from home for many long hours, or a couple of days at a time. That can be stressful if you have a family.

    Good luck!
