Hello all, I am hoping that someone can help me. I recently recieved an ALCo SR-11 high nose from a friend. He found it in the bottom of a box of O-scale stuff. Since I am into HO, I got it. Brought it home and put it on my test track. Next thing I see is a puff of smoke and my MRC goes into overload. The motor is shot. Well, I like this engine and since it is from a friend, I would like to get it running again. The problem is I can not identify who modeled this engine. The only leads I have are 1) it was made in Yugoslavia, 2) it has truck mounted couplers, and 3) the motor/ truck assembly were mounted in the front. Can anyone give me a clue to the modeler so I can get the parts?

I am guessing its an AHM ( Rivrossi ) model. The powertrain youn describe sounds like the one I used to have in an FT unit many many years ago. It also had Yugoslavia stamped on the bottom. Best bet for parts would be a train show or swap meet in your area. I havent seen an engin like this in years. ..Mike

Ok, after I posted last night, I had a chance to take apart the motor/ truck assembly. the motor is not a sealed unit. Magnets et all can be seen right there on the truck assembly, the motor runs in a veritcal axis. The worm gear is in the base of the truck. This thing has got to be really old but it is in realy good condition other wise.

Mike, thank you so much for the info. Like I said, the rest of it is in near perfect condition. This is not my first AHM but it is the first that didn't have the center motor with the shafts. I will try to get in contact with 7600EM1.
    once again thank you. [IMG]

    Wic, and everyone else,
That sure is an old loco! Its dated to be from the late 60's to early 70's! I have quite a few of them myself. I know their designing and all the tooling on them. I'm sure that it needs a tune up! New wire and some treatment to the brushes and torque springs on the top of the motor and possibly some wheel polishing and so on....

Wic, you can contact me at my e-mail address and i'll see what I can do to help you. My e-mail address is: yellowstone10@hotmail.com

Let me know what you might have in mind to do or if you so want to ship it to me for a repair and a total tune up.... I'll be as best of help as possible....

Heres another take on this issue. Given the quality on older AHMs, even a brand new motor may not be too hot. I've got a RS11 thats an atlas shell over a MDC / Athearn mechanisim. THe RS3s and 11s were the same length and with a little fitting any of the various mechjanisims should do. personally I'd go with one from Atlas, but thats the expensive path forward
