Any one know of a maker who makes a nice 2 stall american style engine shed. Kind of like this one. Decided I'm going to replicate steve vollmers Pennsylvania RR, but add on my own twist with a coal route/ main line going all the way down to cumberland water front MD for some fresh crab, and down to west virginia for some beautiful summer mountain scenery and good ol hard black gold!

Lines I will run will be Conrail, PRR, CSX, B&O,Chessie system, C&O, WP, UP

Eventualy along the years once I get bored with my new layout I'm thinking of branching all the way down to Kentucky for some farm land KFC flavor. Will have track plan up in a few days for you guys.

Micron Art I seem to recall made an etched brass kit for a two stall engine house.

I make a more modern one for about half that price. It is more along the lines of what Rix Products would put out in that it has a corrugated metal type of construction. It is on my Shapeways shop for $56 and the detail parts kit (doors and some roof details) is another $9.50. It's kinda ridiculous that I had to do it like this but it actually saved money over having them together for some weird reason or another. Here is a link to the shed if you're interested in taking a peek.

It does indeed come fully assembled and the detail parts and doors are in the shop. Here is a link to them:

And on any item in my shop, if you hover over the picture, a bar will come up at the bottom of the pic and if you click on where it says see in 3D, you can actually rotate the model to see it in any view you want.

When I made these the assembled/unpainted units went for around $40. No one had interest in them so manufacturing was halted in Oct 2009.

I scratched built my engine house basing it off of a Pikestuff N scale one stall modern engine house. I used Evergreen styrene, a scratch built door and roof vents.

Good stuff John. In my books, this is the classic meaning of modeling. Use in part, bash what is available from various manufacturers, scratch build what is not. Congratulations.

    Tim,
That is a shame there was no interest back then as this is some beautiful brass work. Perhaps times have changed and folks have realized that quality=$$$$

    Lajos,

Thanks! Thinking about it now most of the items in that photo were either bashed or scratch built save for the track. I don't mind bashing if there are inexpensive kits out there that I can snag parts from and I don't mind scratch building as long as the material is out there and the prototype info is available to model from.

...And they're done. As alternate, you could be one of the demanding "modelers", add the Farbanks-Morse C-Line and almost all of your stuff to the endless Z-scale wish list, and wait 15years or more :0) Yes, there is a simple solution. Build your own (or some occasions, get some outside help).

Well I was going to order sierras until I noticed I can only pay through pay pal, and can't directly enter my credit card number. So unless I can pay with my credit card and not pay pal I will still order from you if not then I wont be. My paypal is all out of card space so I can't add the card I'm using, and I tried to add it to another account and it wont let me add it or pay with the card.

That really sucks. PayPal has done that to me too. I sure wish I had another answer for you but I think Shapeways only accepts PayPal. I'm very happy that you liked my shed enough to want to order it! It was originally a request from one of the guys on Z Central Station to see if I could make it and I thought it turned out beautifully! When I get a Z scale layout going other than the little 2x4 loop I have now I want to get one or two myself. If you do find a way to order it, please let me know! I would love to see pics of how its painted and weathered if you plan on doing any weathering work. I know that the White, Strong, and Flexible material tends to drink paint, but I designed it for Frosted Ultra Detail and after a coat of primer it takes paint about as well as anything else I have seen if not better. I am waiting on my first order myself (I also made an opera window centerbeam flat) and will get to play with it very soon hopefully!

Also, just in case you were wondering, here is a preview pic of my centerbeam:

I still need to tweak it a bit before I open it up for sale (I can't believe I almost forgot a bolster!!! :tb-shocked:), but it should be available soon for $14 or less.

Tim, does that mean these are 100% scratchbuilt?

    Shed

    Dom,

what you were looking at was a test of the artwork for the two buildings. I printed the front page of the artwork to get a feel for the detail and what the actual size would be. I used these printings to make corrections to the artwork to improve the quality of the final etch. Not cheap having a etching company etch just one item so I thru these buildings onto a sheet that had the first SD70ACe handrails. So I only ever had 5 of each building. I even made cast resin concrete foundations for each building with groves for an embedded rail running from door to door.

The 3 bay shop had an identical type cast resin foundation. The main reason for the rails embedded is so when the doors are shown closed, the top of the rail and top of concret are about the same so doors close all the way down, if you want a door down that is.

So, the photo you enquired about was not necessarily scratch built, but a test for etching artwork.
