The M.A.T. is in the basement of my home and you had to go down unframed stairs to get there. I thought it needed improvement and am in the progress of drywalling it. I also made a welcoming sign and here is a picture of it. What do you do to make the entry to your model railroad interesting? ------------------ Robin member #35 Maberly and Tayside
Since entry will be through the kitchen into the garage, I have a sign the will be posted on the kitchen side of the door that reads "Trainmen Only." It's one of those metal signs with the paint baked on. Additionally, once the layout is further along, I will hang some Santa Fe art work around the benchwork, to help set the mood. Once I finish drywalling the remainder of the garage, the walls will have some general railroad prints on them. I think the room is as important as the layout in terms of reflecting the layout !! Happy Modeling!! John ------------------ The Santa Fe and Southwestern, Chief of the Southwest!!
Besides the dead bolt lock, I think I might hang a sign:"Beware of Junkyard Dogs!". ------------------ Watash #982
Since I have a duckunder entry, I'm thinking about making a "low clearance 5'-0" sign at the edge of the layout. 5 feet may seem high for a layout but since I'm tall(friends call me lurch), I had to make it close to eye level to help bring those small N scale trains to life. Besides, it helps relieve all those "headaches" I had by entering/exiting the layout.
I have 2 "signs": "CAUTION; MODEL RAILROADER AT PLAY" hangs on the door leading to the basement and "LOOK OUT FOR THE ENGINE" hangs at the bottom of the stairs over the train table. Both were gifts from my off spring.
This may look stupid, or unusual, but I'm using a "regular door" in order to get in my layout room. Do I belong to a "special species" of model railroaders? Jean-Louis Simonet
The entry to my train room is also just a plain door. Next to the door is a sign my daughters gave me for christmas a year ago The CEE Line. Ther entry is just off of the garage in the new mud room. I have taken the back 11 feet of a 34' deep garage and made myself a train room. It is completely new and soon the home of the new and improved CEE Line. ------------------ Member #743 Larry E. Well JLS I guess there is just something about us North Americans that we have to advertise. You and many others are more conservative which is fine in my books. ------------------ Robin member #35 NARA member #2 Maberly and Tayside
My layout shares space in our bedroom- layout on one side and around three walls, bed on the other side. I may put my Frisco coonskin logo in the hallway by the door, but that's about all the advertising I'll do. ------------------ Southeast....Southwest.. Ship IT on the Frisco! Bob T. My layout is in the basement, and the "landlord" said "no funny signs" OOOKKKK, dear. Upon opening the door there's a notice with an arrow "to trains". ------------------ When in doubt, empty your magazine. Member #33
I chose this poster for my train room door because it combined two of my interests and because it just looks cool. Behind it is a duckunder about 36" off the floor. I have a hinged bridge there, but I usually just "duck under". That is probably why I have a hernia. <img src=http://www.baypal.com/FREEHOST/iceash/>
Although I haven't printed it out yet, I will be posting this on my door as you enter the train: ONLY THE CHILD WITHIN MAY ENTER [This message has been edited by rsn48 (edited 25 January 2001).]
No you aren't alone Jean-Louis, I have a plain slab door to my layout room also. It does have a deadbolt lock on it. That may be unusual, but I have had unwanted "guests" tear up stuff while I am not there to bust their heads. I no longer take the risk.
I don't have a sign on my door but I do have a sign on my control panel door it reads- "My wife said if I buy one more train she will leave me. Gee I'll miss her" LOL ------------------ Regards Paul #1-Moderator & Member number 50 SPAD Investigator #1 ICQ 61198217 http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000
Colonel, we need a bumper sticker like that, then have under that, "The TrainBoard.com". (come to think of it, I saw a bumper sticker and found a RR Club that way. Why not, we might gain some more members who would see it and dial in!) I would even put one on my wife"s car! ------------------ Watash #982 "See you in the Pit" [This message has been edited by watash (edited 24 January 2001).]

I have a good friend who has steep steps into his basement thus low head clearance. He has a sign that is about 5" high that you see going down the steps that has ducks on it meaning duck stupid. I always get a chuckle out of it when I go into his basement.
I have marked my territory (Train Room) with a small series of signs on the door, starting at the top with "Any Time is Train Time", a Circular Railway Warning Sign with a small sticker which says "Trains Ahead", a Railroad Crossbuck with the sign beneath it which says "750 Tracks", an "I Love Trains" Bumper Sticker and finally one which says "Trains Are Like Wifes, If It Ain't Yours, Then Don't touch". No need to lock the door yet as my wife (who enjoys participating with me in the shooting sports) has promised to shoot anyone who tries to screw up my layout room. Happy Modeling! Cheers, Terry
Hey K.V.Div, that's the kind of wife to have! Mine promised to throw them into a tree shredder! ...Feet first.... Face down.... Then shoot him..it..what's left..! (She 's a sweetheart!) ------------------ Watash #982 "See you in the Pit"
