I've never seen a photo of a "Jet" MUed with anything else. Not being a New Haven fan specifically, I haven't looked a lot, but EP-5 photos in general don't seem to be too common. So, did they run with any other electrics, either in their time on NH or on PC as E40s?
I have a lot of pictures of the EP-5. And nowhere are they MU-ed. Maybe they were powerfull enough to handle the trains alone?
The PC/Conrail designation E40 suggests they had 4000 hp. I guess passenger trains on the NH didn't need more power than that, but PC transferred them to freight service. E33s and E44s often ran in twos or threes, as did GG1s in freight service. I believe GG1s couldn't MU with E33s, E44s or E40s, as GG1s were straight AC and the others were rectifiers.
On http://www.trains.com/TRC/CS/forums/894830/ShowPost.aspx the EP5s are described as "oddballs without MU". I guess that explains it.
Brazilian EP-4s The Brazilians, who also ran a version of these locos Mu'd them as needed. They have a FRATESCHI 'HO' scale model, that lends itself to superdetailing and yields a fine loco for a moderate price. As compared to fabricated brass Oriental models of the same prototypes, they are an excellent, lower cost solution for modelers needing them. Good-Luck, PJB
There's a big difference between an EP-4 and an EP-5. EP-4: http://www.northeast.railfan.net/images/nh361.jpg EP-5: http://www.northeast.railfan.net/images/tr_nh4971.jpg You must be referring to http://www.pell.portland.or.us/~efbrazil/v8color.html
The EP-5s were not mu'able but did occassionally get "double-headed' on heavy trains using two engine crews.
