    Brian,

Things have been kind of slow this weekend, I think owing to the Labor Day weekend in the U.S. There may be more as people come back.

A lot of folks look at photos but don't necessarily comment, too, so that may be going on.

    Best,
    Adam

    Hi Brian:

You have an interesting site and a lot of desire for restoring this railroad.

Having worked in this business for a long time and managed a few short lines, I offer a few questions for you to think about as you move forward in this desire.

Why would someone invest/rehabilitate and want to expand a property like the ES&NA? New potential passenger business? Are there any potential freight customers who would be willing to commit/spend up to 20 million dollars to restore a connection to a mainline railroad for a significant (we are talking a huge, industrial complex like a paper mill, coal fired power plant, etc. not just a small, grain elevator, propane distributor, or fertilizer distributor) venture? Would the A&M even be receptive to being an interchange connection to the ES&NA? How would you deal with the functions of finance, operations, marketing, engineering, government compliance etc.?

It takes a lot of time, effort and money to put together a new operation and then you have to continually find new customers as a line generally loses about 10% of it's revenue/customer base a year. Buying a line just to see trains operate is a worthy goal if YOU have the money to do so and it is a private operation. Trying to do it and make a profit is a dream many folks have but is best handled on a smaller scale in the form of a model railroad...and then only if you have the money up front to make IT work.

There was a time many years ago when I thought I wanted to own and operate my own short line railroad. Now, after forty two years on the rails, working in several, different capacities on both class1s and short lines, and having seen all the blood, sweat and tears it takes to run one, I am quite content to watch others do so and provide assistance as necessary. My advice: If you like the railroad go to work on one but stay away from owning one.

Oh if only the date was about 60 years ago. I'd go to work as a telegrapher at some small town agency. But I'd never aspire to enter ranks the gray hair and ulcer brigade.

Thanks, Barry for your Advice and your very good questions you ask. I can't answer some of your questions, but I can say this:
"When I own The ES&NA RR, I will be hauling only passenger (tourists) and little frieght (such as lumber for lumber yards, and etc.) But The ES&NA RR will be restore to it's original condition and connect to The A&M RR Mainline in Seligman, Mo., where I will have an link to the Main Railroad Line, and of course I will rebuilt the Seligman RR Depot and the frieght depot in ES, ARK., and etc... Well I think I said alot here, but I hope you understand why I need help to purchase/buy and Save The ES&NA RR. This is my Dream to own and operated The ES&NA RR."

    Hello "Fireball Magee",

Your Question - "Are you going to run steam again someday?" Answer - Yes, I am going to run steam again someday, after I restore The ES&NA RR back to the operating condition. But in order for me to do this I need to buy The ES&NA RR.

As of now all Steam Locomotives are retire and the current owners will not run them again.

As you probably already know The ES&NA RR is For Sale for $1.7 Million, but for me to get this kinda money it will be kind a hard. So that is why I am asking for help.

You want to help me, start asking for help for Saving The ES&NA RR!!

What other information do you want to know??
