These two pages are from the E&I RR (Evansville & Indianapolis) in Terre Haute Indiana. Track #35 is the connection to the T.H.I. & E Traction Co. according to page 2. Interesting track layout from the CCC&STL HQ in Cincinnati. There is no date on the pages, but C.T.H & S.E. Connection shows at #4.

Page #2 of the set lists the tracks and connections. This must be before the sale of the E.& I. in the '20s to the Big Four. Existing trackage along the Wabash River just North of Interstate 70 is the Tie Treatment Plant, which may be the Water Street area of this detail.

    Quite interesting!

A couple of things I noticed, there are several distilleries in town. Were those whiskey
or vinegar distillers? Also the name "Vigo" is associated with at least 4 different businesses. Was that the name of a prominent family in Terre Haute?

Somewhere in TH was also located a train order office named "Vigo". Although I believe it was PRR.

The majority of distilleries weren't for vinegar. Remember that this was before prohibition.

Man, TH was a busy place railroad-wise before the Awfulmobile. Shows what a complex transportation infrastructure we lost when Henry Ford, John Rockerfeller, and Harvey Firestone lobbied and controlled Congress.

    That's a neat map, Roger...Thanks.

That's a great map and explanation page, Roger. Ever wonder what railroads would be like today if it wasn't for the automobile and interstate highway system? Back then the whole city of Terre Haute depended on the railroads. :tb-sad:

I think the map was made before the 1920’s. It shows the THI&E Traction Co still there and if I remember right it went out of business in the 1930’s.
This map is kinda confusing for me, and I could be wrong on some of what I’m bout to say, but anyway. I don’t think ever went much south of Wabash Av, or is even still around.
I can remember [barely] when the brewery was still going and my great uncle working there. They had their own little RR that ran inside the brewery for moving cask and other materials. Whiskey casks were moved to the ageing barns across the street on standard rail cars. Here’s some info on the brewery’s there.

The 1 business serviced on 1’st [and maybe the tie plant] is Graham Grain, which is, where the Greenwood yard [#9] was. According to my FIL, they also own the 1st tracks from there north. The tracks south to the C&EI [Springhill diamond] is either owned by CSX or INRD
And the tie plant, which is on In-63, I think it’s serviced off what remains of the CTH&SE Belt tracks now that International Paper’s closed.
