This unit (as were all of the other demos) was identifiable by their "rounded cabs and sheet metal work.... These rounded cabs, nose, and protruding headlights did not make it to the regular production run of GP59's. Harold
Yep. In fact, other than the GP59 demostrators NS has (EMD 8-10), and EMD 3 (the HTCR SD60), CSX has all the 60 series demos. EMD 5-8 went to LLPX as 6001-6003, now CSX 6897-6899 EMD 1, 2 and 4 were bought by CR, as their 6840, 6842 and 6841. CSX originally got 6841 and 6842, and renumbered them 8710 and 8711. NS got the 6840 (EMD 1) and numbered it 6701 (right after the NS bought SD60s), but it was subsequently traded back to CSX, and is now CSX 8790. Before CR bought the original SD60 demos, EMD built another set, which were leased to BN as 8300-8302. These are unique in that they are the only SD60s built with a ratchet brake. These wound up as LLPX 8300-8302 and were also part of the LLPX 2000 trade (as were the 3 GP60s and 25 SD70Ms) They are now CSX 8787-8789. Of interest, the first three SD70Ms from the trade, CSX 4675-4677 (LLPX 7000-7002), are the EMD SD70 demos. The SD80MAC demos, 8000-8001, were bought by CR as 4128-4129, 4128 is CSX 812. (4129 is NS 7216)
