There are hundreds. If you specify some then I might be able to help you though.

Which abbreviations are you needing help with as the list of fallen flags would be more than any of us could ever list completely. It might be helpful too if you list the region of the map for those abbreviations needed to as there might be multiple railways that could have used simular abbreviations that Rand McNally may or may not have used correctly.

Am not aware of such a compilation. Especially including old initials, or former AAR codes. Such info would be interesting!

Do you know anyone who collects Official Guides? If so, OG published a special issue in Summer of 1974. It's called "The Golden Guide." I am told it contains the names of all railroads ever listed in this book, up to that time. I'd sure like to have my own copy!

If you think it would help, throw some initials up here. And perthaps we might have answers! It's worth a try!

If you go to www.rrdepot.com and click on the reporting marks section, just type in the initials and it will give you list of the main railroad and who ever bought it up to present date. I use it all the time and it is quite helpfull.I would stay out of the the discussion section though, it has been taken over by some strange porn stuff. [IMG]

    Andy-

It appears that the reason for the problem is an inattentive owner. Looks like there've been no updates since 2001. Which usually explains takeovers by unwanted users. Bummer.

The site was unattended for a while but I am now back at it. The discussions area is gone and can't be recovered due to hackers. I have new software I am using and hopefully will have all of the old areas back online again soon.

We do have a shared photo gallery online, new discussion forums, and the reporting marks search will return in early June.

    Hey Shane,
Good to hear from you. RRdepot is where I started out with this computer stuff. I went there every day for a year with no new posts so I moved on like everyone else. [IMG]
