Pictures of my son and I project 4×7 History of BNSF Layout. We chose this type of them in planning because I currently work for BNSF Railroad. My father bought my first railroad back in 1979 Tyco age 9. Carried on as a Model Railroader for about 12 years built my own layout 4x8 using the Tyco Layout Expansion System.Rocky Mountain/Rock Island/ Burlington Northern/Santa Fe/Virginian lines back then. After that college happened, boxed up the trains stored in an attic for about 35+years. Now today got back into the hobby. I return the favor and encourage my youngest to put down Mario Ninetindo for just a few minutes a week as we build our layout together featuring History of BNSF locomotives with 35-40 yr rolling stock from my Tyco collection that was stored away. It's a blend of both DCC and DC Enjoy the pics and carry on the tradition of Model Railroading with your youngins. It doesn't have to be an old guys hobby as my daughter teases me. Get the kids involved early! If the response is favorable I will share more Father Son History of BNSF Layout pics. Thanks Everyone. RT Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Great looking layout!! All those Tyco loco's remind me of my childhood, and starting out in model railroading. Star Wars and trains, doesn't get any better!!
WooHoo!!! Great to see you two invovled, together! As the saying goes, "the family that plays together stays together"! And we get an enthusiastic youngster to help keep the hobby growing.
Man, this brings back memories. My earliest layout was N, but my brother and I had an HO 4x8 that we built up. Keep the photos coming! Love it!
Sharing this quick video of the layout. Sorry about the quality. Gives the general view. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Here's our Model Railroad set to music telling the story History of BNSF Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Time for some layout updates. Modified my original design in Anyrail software... and adding rail yard in progress. + ballasting work. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
More progress on our 6 inches double track side addition to our layout. Slowly but surely... To Do: *Locomotive Testing - No Electrical Gaps *Test Track and Switches *Test Rail Yard addition is reasonably level(this is key in limiting derailments) *Add Forest Blend and Static Grass blens from Mountain Back drop *Ballast and more Static Grass Blend *Gravel parking lot and foundation for interlocking switching tower Whew... what have I gotten myself into! My son replied: "We should just take our time Dad"... ahhh out of the mouths of Babes. The work continues Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Nice to see this project pop up again. Good idea for the new addition. I'm also starting on a layout with my son but my progress has been much slower. We've only got the outer main loop down and a temp loop running inside until I get that properly done.
Thanks and feel free to take any Ideas from my many loops layout. I can export a track parts list from my AnyRail program and share the parts list on this post if anyone would like. Its not a big giant layout but its just right 4×7 with additional 5"-6" double track rail yard. Thanks for the kind comments Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Thanks for the offer but I think I've got my plan pretty much down. It's a modified version of #39 from "101 track plans" I really should draw out a cleaner version and post it to the blog.
Sharing more updates to layout. Added Scenery, and New Locomotive Santa Fe FT-A unit to our History of BNSF Also created a Tutorial on "How to Ballast EZ-Track" layout. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Same here. It's great! Nothing better than to see the excitement of a kid around a train layout, mainly because I remember it, myself. Doug
Thought I'd share a little Tutorial on a different way of simulating brick and mortar fx on model buildings for our layout. I cant figure out how to embed YouTube Videos into the forum but here's a link and a few pics. How to simulate Brick Work Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Very nice job on the structure. Looks excellent. Also like the look of the ballasted unitrack. Huge improvement in appearance. Haven't visited this thread in a while. Great progress.
