This was the first book I purchased on the Grande, actually. I recommend it highly to anyone who isn't familiar with the Grande and would like to know more. The well-written text and great photo selection provide an excellent introduction to the railroad's history and character. It doesn't go into detail, of course -- that's not what the book is for. An oversight is the lack of a route map (I found an excellent one on Wikipedia, though). There are some pics of steam, and lots from the 1980s-1990s, but little visual coverage of the 1950s. But these are quibbles. Again, strongly recommended for those wishing an introductory overview. (I'd like to have more books in this series!) --Bryan
