Thought I'd start an new topic on layout photographs.

Ok guys lets see how many photos we can post here.

I took this picture last week of my layout while experimenting on best areas of my layout to photograph. I just cant resist the bridge and the reverse curve underneath it.

    Paul,
Nice choice! First off your N scale right??? Reason I ask is I see the SD-80 or is that a SD-90? Anyway nice. I like the traverse curse as well. It looks like an actual remote place I know of in Maryland state in Cumberland MD. Its where the Western Maryland Railway went across the B&O. The B&O was on the ground and the WM was on the bridges. Its called "The Narrows". And looks just how you modeled that scene on your layout, only it would be seen from the other side of the bridges from the way you took the picture... NICE WORK!

I don't know if its possible for you to do a favor for me or not.. Go to the CSX forum and please the one topic of the 2 I made that has no replies in it. It should be the second one of the 2. I have no idea how I got 2 topics posted but I did and only one is needed. If you can I appreciate it. THANKS...

Nice photograph friend, I also like the reverse curve, The angle you took the photo from gives a sense of purpose to the shot. (LUV IT)

    John,

Yes it is N scale and thanks for your comments. I don't suppose you have a picture of "The Narrows"?
I'd certainly like to see the similarities.
The locomotive is a CPR SD90 my latest edition to my roster.

    Paul,

Thanks for your comments, I'm interested to see which is your favorite photograph of your layout. I look forward to seeing which photograph you select.

    (Admin.) Paul,
I will see if I can find a picture of "The Narrows" online for you! As for the red SD-90, very noticable with its color for one and then the fact of the radiator wings on the rear tells its story to be a SD-90! Thats why I asked if it was N scale..... Being I model HO and my roads are B&O and Western Maryland I still wouldn't mind having a SD-80 or a 90.... The SD-80 will become CSX #802, (I think thats the number for CSX's SD-80 thats painted in the Bright future scheme). They only have one SD-80 painted from Conrail to CSX so.... Its only one road number. But I haven't seen anything on an HO SD-80/90 yet so.... :D

801 is the only repainted CSX SD80MAC, and Kato is hoping to release the HO 80/90 in the spring. Just wanted to let you know.

Favorite pics of our layouts? Cool! I could not resist this one. It was hard to find one pic that I could say represents my NS. MRR. So here are a few. [IMG]

Norfolk Southern Provides a flavor all of its own, so here is an interesting shot : [IMG]

Here is a shot of a NS. High hood, a Conrail U Boat and the Steam locomotive 765 . Yup that's write there steam on that there railroad!

OPPS almost forgot the Container yard.

    The train is pulling in!

Norfolk Southern in the weeds on the branch line.

The crew of the BCB ( Beaver Creak to Bradford and back local ). How many crew can you count in the cab ?

I guess this last shot is one that best describes the layout. NS trains on the move. Here we see the yard local "BCB" on the branch line as a faster moving main line hot shot over comes it.

Last but not least, the container yard:

I made my water using epoxy resins. I don't remember the name of the manufacturer. I think it was Envirotex clear casting resin like Walthers carries.

I assume you must be referring to this picture for the OWL website since the water is not very visible in the photo on the "favorite picture" forum. [IMG] Getting the "mossy" look was really a happy accident that I'm not sure that I know how to replicate. The only way I can explain it is: I mixed two paints--a brown and a green together--that turned out to be not very compatible. After they were painted in the river bed where I expected to pour the epoxy there apparently was a separation due to this incompatibility. It turned out better than I ever could have hoped it would! :D

It also may have been that I poured the epoxy before the paints were entirely dry. (I sometimes tend to rush such things.) If that is true, than the epoxy itself may have assisted in the separation. Whatever it was...it worked great!

After the epoxy was poured and had time to set up, I applied some white acrylic paint to the areas where it looked appropriate for rapids. I don't remember if I then applied a glossy finish to the rapids or not, but I think it would be a good idea since the acrylic paint has more of a flat finish.

This is all to the best of my recollection since I actually made the last "water" module about 12 years ago. Hope this helps. I'll see if I can get additional pictures that show the water better.

Here is a photo taken of my latest addition. I installed this custom built grain terminal last week.
The terminal was made by my friend Warren Lake here in Aus.

    Alan,
Yes I must say that is a decent scene of your layout with the bridge over the yard.... Only one thing that I notice it needs. some cars going across it! :D Then it will be as real as you or even I could get it unless its an not-so-busy side road then its understandable...

    Paul,
I love that I have a Mantua 0-6-0 Camelback B8a. I just never imagined it doing some logging services!! I like that but mine as everyone should know or have guessed by now is Baltimore And Ohio!! :D Yours run pretty good???? I mean is it still original with the open frame motor or did you repower it or does it have the new Sagami motor in it???? Mine has the new Sagami and runs like a scared jack rabbit!! Anyway what all do you have on the tender of it???? I see alot of detail and can't make it all out.. Sure does look good though! :D Keep up the great work!

These are some very, very impressive layouts. My own HO Scale layout (a c. 1950s setting) is currently under construction - otherwise, I'd have many pictures to show. [IMG]
