    That's a good question! My first thought would be that the casting part, making the mold, etc. is just to much tediouse and yes you said it expensive work for such a part. What you might want to do is maybe buy a really wide fiber optic and just use that as the whole thing OR buy a bunch of small ones and run them inside a tube (metal or what every else you can find).

    Or if you wanted to go the quik route you could do what the fellow in N scale Magazine did with the spaghetti. [​IMG]
