Circa 1890 - First Wreck on the Mackinac Greenville (actually Mackinaw) Reverse of the picture notes... "Katzenburgers. 114 W. Main St., Greenville Ohio". Photographer A.M. Johnson of Greenville Ohio. Gordon Davids: The "Mackinaw" was the Cincinnati, Jackson and Mackinaw, which later morphed into the Cincinnati Northern and came under the reign of a trainmaster at Van Wert named William Robert Foster, and at a later time a Track Supervisor at Bryan named Gordon Alan Davids (for a VERY short period.) Roger, you are sure finding some old history. I assume this railroad was one of those that eventually comprised the CCC&StL.
Yes, it was. There were so many railroads that eventually went into the CCC&StL and the NYC that it is almost impossible to keep track of them all.
That's an interesting photo. The overall damage suggests a head-on collision, yet it appears that both locomotives are headed in the same direction. Is there any other information connected with the photo, such as newspaper reports?
