Is it up to the listing member to mark them as sold? I found this listing, for example, RREDUCED NOTE New Atlas N Scale Boxcars Due to Diabetis SELL FOR FAIR CASH SALE PRICE - TrainStore, But I am guessing it is probably sold, since it was posted last November. It is a bit frustrating looking through listings and having no idea if the item is still available. Anyway that a listing can be purged after a time period? Maybe a PM could be automatically sent to the lister, somthing like: "your ad will expire and be deleted in 7 days if you do not do XYZ to keep it active." Am I asking too much of the forum software?
Currently, we do not restrict how long an Ad can remain; but, the Seller should remove it once sold. So, I would contact the seller and see if the item is still available since it is still listed. :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd:
Thanks for the info. Here is another example Moving back to HO, N for sale - TrainStore He has not been online in over 100 days, and his ad says he updated the available stuff in 2006. I know running a forum is a lot of work, but it seems the marketplace needs some cleaning up and deleting of older posts.
What you are suggesting is a good idea so I will make sure others on the staff are aware and see if we can get someone to go through all the Ad's and see what might be purged. :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd: :tb-nerd:
This selling member has not logged aboard for almost two years. Which is far too long for leaving an ad unattended. My opinion- That, and if any others by them, ads should be immediately removed. Boxcab E50

 All of my ads were deleted. They were active, what in the world was wrong? I just updated them the other day to say "Price updated as of August 2009". I got about 15 of these emails: campp, I'm sorry, but the ad you submitted to TrainBoard.com, titled "Atlas GP7 TT Undec shell w/tank", has been deleted. Some reasons for ad deletions include: - Ads that were partially uploaded/incomplete - Extremely poor quality/images (impossible to make out the image itself) - Ads that did not conform to our published site contribution and usage guidelines such as offensive - Ads which were not paid for after submission If you would like to submit another ad, please return to our ad upload form: http://www.trainboard.com/trainstore/uploadproduct.php May I reload them? (I'll have to re-photograph them also)
Campp, we made a decision to delete all posts where the post date was greater than 90 days. Sorry for the inconvenience
Yes, My on going ad about layout building was purged without warning. Thanks alot. And this, after I finally quit feeloading on Trainboard and coughed up $24. Why should I feel good about this??????????????????????Cheers, Jim CCRR/Socalz44 PS I'm writing this here because no one cared to answer my off line query.
I am sorry that my post was the impetus for you two losing your ad. If you can see it from my viewpoint, I found it frustrating to look through ads with no real way of knowing if the items still existed. There were items for sale that had been listed for 6 months, a year, 2 years, none said sold. I had no idea what was still active. While I was not part of the decision to purge anything older than 90 days, I understand and support the decision to do so. I realize I am a new member, and perhaps my support holds no weight, but I offer it never the less. To those who lost photos and ads, I would like to suggest that you keep a copy of your photos and your ad on your hard drive, you never know when a website will have a server accident and could lose all your online data. It actually happened to me once, there was a fire in the building where my server was located and they lost over half their machines. Anyway, I am sorry if my "complaint" caused some inconvenience, but I am thankful to the admins here for their efforts to make the marketplace more up to date.
Rodney, No one is blaming you. I think we hold responsible the person who does know who Socalz44/CCRR is. I'm on everyday. I've made comments, I've won some photo contests. It is not like I hang out on the Z Section, I'm always participating in the big picture here at Trainboard. Doesn't this administrator realize that that may be, "oh this is that guy's," ad? Seems to me that giving anyone the ax every 90 days is a bit short sighted and I and others would like to see some care taken with the delete key. My ad content should have made it obvious to anyone that this fellow (me) is alive and well. Bummed, Jim CCRR/Socalz44
I run the classified section of another forum, and I delete all ads after 90 days. The "regulars" know this, and when one of their ads is deleted because it ages out, they replace it within a day. The only exceptions are the paid ads which run until the advertiser lets me know the item is sold, and they are encouraged to replace their ads every 90 days. This system works well on that forum, and maybe the forum administrators here can let everybody know "this is how it will be" from now on. If everybody is aware of it, they can act accordingly.
Terry, I'm the moderator on a Forum of over 1500 Z scalers. I don't care about how yours runs. To arbitrarily just delete ads without some kind of warning is not cool. What is next, someone doesn't like our photos, so out they go? Cheers, Jim CCRR/Socalz44
Jim, that is taking it too far. It's an ad, afterall. Those 90 days and over were deleted en masse with no prejudice. It would be a painful and time-consuming exercise to go through each, deleting as you go. At least you realised your's was one of them. I'm certain there are more members who haven't realised, have forgotten or don't care. As for not caring for how other forums are run - Terry's system works for his forum, your system works for your forum and our system will work for our forum.
