I don't remember it being too bad but then we only went one stop and not sure what speed we got up to as my GPS didn't work through all the tunnels between Kokura and Hakata, I did get the impression it was a bit more cramped inside than older and newer types.
thanks to TetsuUma i now dont feel so alone liking foreign stuff =) more on this thread trains of taiwan: 700T, G22, R100 - TrainBoard.com but here are just some highlights i wanted to share from my latest shipment from taiwan.
Update to my post back in August. Found the Ibertren 0-4-0 and three cars as a set in a hobby shop in Canada. Found the Fleischmann locomotives and cars on a popular internet auction website. All are N scale and fun to watch. (Well, anything in N scale is fun to watch.)
"(Well, anything in N scale is fun to watch.)" That's the spirit of this thread. Actually I've never met any train that wasn't fun to watch.
Latest Delivery I had a little something waiting for me when I got back from Chicago - the new Kato 2016-1. A little back history, D51 ("Degoichi") 498 is owned by JR East and is used from time to time. The latest release has the new mechanism that doesn't protrude into the cab. I'm afraid I do not have any details on it but I am sure others can provide the info. (I'd like to know it myself.) I also posted photos of Kato 2006-1 (the previous model D51) and the Kato Roundhouse model (2006-3) of D51 498 in the 1988 Orient Express paint for comparison. (Is it wrong to photograph Kato locomotives on Tomix track?) I apologize that the detail is kind of washed out in the photos. I couldn't get good lighting. This is the original Kato D51 (2006-1) and you can see what I mean about the motor. The Orient Express version (2006-3) is better but still has the old mechanism. (Sorry about the lead wheel being off the track.) I now need to get the new model some track time and see how she runs. The detail is certainly much better. I also like the new packaging. The support base has pins that line up with holes in the bottom of the model. Andy Tetsu Uma
That looks nice! I've yet to get any of Kato's Japanese steam locos, but this may be the year. I just happened to put a new video on youtube earlier today of my foreign prototypes. I can't wait to add the Kato E5 to my collection! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWqUhgy6LFA
Westfallen, That red one is the closest I've seen to the local trains my family rode in Munich and Berlin this summer. Anyone know if they are available (a manufacturer could be posted, for a retailer please IM me)
I picked this up in a neat little central CT LHS on New Years Eve day. It's a Katp 10-449 [Limited Edition] Series 165 Moonlight. In addition to the price, I really liked the Japanese proto couplers.
It's Flieschmann, not sure of current availability, I picked it up second hand from a guy at the club who was culling his collection.
I gave my new D51 a good run in at our last club meeting, they run just as well as you would expect. This guy's Japanese site has some good photos and info on the D51 and others if you surf around on it. I plan on following his instructions for installing a sound decoder in mine, the tender was designed with space for a speaker. ‚c‚T‚P ‚S‚X‚W‚ւ̃TƒEƒ“ƒhƒfƒR[ƒ_[“‹Ú
Westfalen, The "prototype Deltic" as you have illustrated was a private venture from English Electric. It used diesel engines from Royal Navy patrol boats. After trials, and before the Class 55 Deltics were ordered for the East coast main line, certain alterations had to be undertaken. A comparison of this, and the production series, will show, but the prototype outline was considered "Too American"!!! Regards, Pete Davies
Hmmmm... I don't know if I actually have anything that could be considered foreign, per se, but if I did want to model a locomotive that was a foreign model, I would love to go for the Australian V-Line's class A and B locomotives: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V/Line_A_class http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victorian_Railways_B_class_(diesel) They may not look particularly foreign since they were based on the EMD E-unit, but I still think that the double-ended design is wonderfully attractive.
I picked up 2 Tomytec Portrams that I'll be using on my Tram extension area of my layout. The price was very good about half of the Kato version but from what I hear from friends there is no comparison, the Kato is far superior. (no surprise when you consider the price)
You might check this engine : Diesellokomitve NOHAB MY1131 STRABAG -K2886 It is an old Danish engine now used by private railroad contractors for MoW service. I have the CFL version on order :tb-biggrin:
Got this guy a few months ago. It may look like the new Arnold DB ICE 3, but looks can be deceiving, as anyone who frequents the PRR fallen flags board knows. Here's why.
I have a JR ED75 loco on order. I hope to get it soon. Another JR loco for me, now I just need some freight cars to go with it.
Ha-ha! That's cute, but not quite the classic EMD bulldog nose I like the colors on it, too, but I just don't think I could swing it right now.
I see he is using an MRC 1637 for the sound conversion. You have more info on Japanese models than I, do you know if there is a plug-n-play decoder for just DCC operation? Nice there is a midprice option for those willing to forgo the "options." Andy Tetsu Uma
