My N scale empire took up 3/4ths of my garage. It was all scenery with two loops no turnouts. A roundy rounder if you will. I had to tear it down because I needed my garage back That was 6 years ago and I have the itch again. I want to build a large Z scale layout that I can stow away somehow.
Ideally it would be 5'x12' open grid with 1x4 frame. Mounted on a base with wheels and the ability to fold the layout so it's against the wall.
I like long trains, unit trains especially so the bigger the better.
I'll try to keep this thread going once I get started
I know what I want in my head I just have to get a construction plan.
    Here's a few pics of my 20' x17' N scale empire [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Dieselfan,
Very nice layout, too bad you had to destroy it.:(

Beautiful Scenery that you have done! AZL does have a Western Pacific California Zephyr in Z scale that would look great on your new layout! Welcome to Z scale! Looking forward to seeing your new layout as it progresses!

    Go modular?

This is all Z-Bend track standard. Minimum 14" radius curves, I think? Fills up my former dining and living rooms. It's a blast.

As someone who was a hard core N scaler for decades once I switched to Z I never looked back. Welcome to the fun side!
