I dug up some old buildings I retired some time ago. I think I will keep the Bar and repurpose it. The train station is the old Bachmann Freight Station. The building is too big for the area I would use it in, so it will remain retired, I have an Atlas Maywood Station that will be perfect on the new layout. Perhaps I'll post the old Bachmann to Ebay for a couple pennies.

Does anyone else have old, retired buildings? If so, what are your plans with the old structures?

I think all my "retired" buildings are on my layout.

Thanks Kurt, that building is obsolete. It is the old waffle house kit. I need a new sign to hang off front, the old one broke.

I like the station with the Coke machine. Did the Picnic Tables come with it?

Hi, thanks for taking a look. The train station is actually the old Bachmann freight station repurposed. It looked like a plastic toy and came with nothing other than a funky looking fork truck and some black plastic looking things I suppose are benches. It took a little effort to make it look usable.

A photo of what the kit looks like straight out of the box.

The transformation is amazing! It's remarkable what a paint job can do. Did you have to take it apart at all to paint it?

With a repaint and a few details, it turns ito a nice little station but you took it up to another level. Great job! (y)(y)(y)

I had a three or four-story building that I bought early on during layout construction, second hand. I figured out later that it was more N than HO! o_O It got replaced.

A house got the heave-ho too, replaced by another that looked less plasticky...

On my way home from work today, I saw something that immediately put that image of the Bar in my head - a Nissan Cube!:ROFLMAO:

I think you should have switched scales.

I've been kicking around some ideas on how I may wire my lighted buildings on the layout. I practiced a bit with the two older buildings posted above. I decided to use an old N scale transformer, an on-off switch and a dimmer switch. I could go battery power, but I am not sure I want the hassles of replacing batteries. I used a lighted on-off latching switch to power the block on and off. The way I have it set up, I should be able to power 7 buildings.

I am not a fan of chrome, so the chrome switch annoys me. I did find similar switches in black. I ordered a black switch just to see if I liked it. Eventually I will need at least 3 latching switches.

    This is the black switch

Good idea. I would stick with the little old power pack instead of batteries. The dimmer is good.

Years ago, I went through all the trouble of cutting a rectangular hole in the case of my old MRC 500N pack to mount a slide switch to turn the AC on and off for the lights when I could have just used an external switch. Ah well, when you're young, you get fanciful ideas.

I'm with Doug on this. Batteries would be a pain over time.

I do like that black pushbutton switch. (y)

I had one of these on my very first layout. Seeing this pic makes me want to get a pair of them just to have. One as is and one to "dress up" :) Good memories
