I just had to tell you guys that my 15-year-old and I just joined the San Juan Model Railroad Club here in Montrose :D . The layout is a freelanced combination of standard HO and steam, with no real era, set in the area around Montrose. Lots of opportunity to scratch build local structures and rolling stock ;) . I was really happy that my 15-year-old wanted to join...thought I had lost him to girls, sports and cars  !

Congrats, John! You've thrown in with a good bunch of folks down there. WHere is their layout located? I thought they lost their club space. Good to hear they're building something, though........ [IMG]

BTW, y'all need to make your way up to "Junction" to check out the Grand Valley Model RR Colub's layout! It's also freelanced somewhat, but includes some narrow gauge plus a scratchbuilt model of the Co-op complex over in Fruita. Rumor has it that every now & then Frisco diesels can be seen :D :D :D (but you know how rumors are.....)

Thanks Bob, We'll be sure and get up there! The layout space is in the basement of a small house/business owned by the school district. They have been in there for quite some time, but I did hear someone saying they worried about losing the space?!? Anyhow, I look forward to participating, and am sure my son will have fun too!!

I let my 10-year-old "crack the throttle" on my home layout, and even act as brakeman for him throwing turnouts, signaling "back up", "stop", and "proceed". He likes being engineer, and I'm watching that he doesn't exceed the speed limit I set (it's a shortline in Texas, after all, and there's more weeds than ballast on the tracks :D :D ). We're both having a ball.

I hope you guys don't lose the space, but if it happens, I hope you find a new place real quick.

Nice to have a son (or daughter) to share the hobby with. I know my son and I do more things together than most father/son teams due to model railroading and rail fanning. I hope is great for you as well.
