I have several old freight cars that I'm trying to renew with Kadees and such, but they are missing one or all of their ladder steps/rungs on the bottom of the cars. One is a boxcar, two are flat cars and one tank car. I'm not even sure of the manufacturer because they don't have markings, and were either mine from 15 years ago or picked up second hand at shows or just given to me by friends.
Is there a generic step that can be used to replace them?
I can always paint them yellow or black as I could most likely not match their already faded colors.

I dont know if this is the sorta answer you are looking for, but i'm replacing all of my molded on step rungs on cars with Aline metal ones. They are way more durable than say the DA 'plastic' ones and they have that prototypical look. They have 3 dif styles.

Thanks Tunnel.
I'll keep them in mind.
How do you apply them?

I'm not sure of the bit size offhand, but its simply a matter of drilling 2 holes in the bottom of the sidesill or frame and cementing them in place.

I have used the plastic DA ones on a few cars, they are nice and scale but VERY delicate, I not tryed the A-line ones yet but may give them a try, although they only do 3 types, so I may have to keep using the DA ones to get the type I need.

Hey Matthew, i was using the DA ones but their delicate nature is what's sold me on the A line parts... they look really nice but man they are a pain to deal with! But if i need a specific style i will use a DA part if i have to.
