Hi everyone, I am an avid BNSF'er, live near a mainline, yard, and plenty of branchline grain operations. I am looking for info on the fuel tenders that BN tried in the 80's/90's. Do they still use them? If not, where can I get pics to build one? What brand of tank car should I use for the conversion? Atlas? Roundhouse, MT, Kato? I saw one on eBay last night, custom painted, btu he wanted 38$ for it. Steep, and I think I could make a believeable model. Tips?
This has been discussed recently in the BN Forum. Take a look here http://www.trainboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=51&t=000011
Well, BNSF still uses them for their helpers, usually sandwiched between two SD40-2s. Go to the link below and look at pictures 3-5. Shows the helpers on a coal train entering a siding, cutting off, then heading back. They have the fuel tank between them, couple of good shots. These were taken in July 2000. http://krugtales.fanspace.com/prevtale/p000703/p000703c.htm
Good to see some more of Al Krug's photos, Corey. Does he still post on trainorders? He was the main reason I used to go there I did try to get him onto here, but he said he likes to keep a low profile! Anyway, we now have our own engineer/photographer, Dave Interesting point on the BN SD40-2, it has an air conditioner on the roof, painted yellow. Guess where that came from Good close up shots of the fuel tender also.

Just the other day he posted all of his consists for Y2K, and his consist for tomorrow, which is all C30-7s. I appreciate his work, and it's always fun to see what he has up. I was actually browsing through his old shots a couple of days ago, and ran across those, kind of incidental timing, but good shots nonetheless.
Go here for previous 'tales from the Krug'. Well worth the visit. http://krugtales.fanspace.com/prevtale/prevtale.htm
