Lorne, just as an example. I want to make a really detailed, fancy rsort. I figure it is gonna cost me well over 200 bucks.
Ok, so each month I spend about 20 dollars to maybe 30. I buy enough to do some work on it and yet not be bogged down by doing too much. At say 20 to 30 a month, in 10 months at 30 I spend 300. At 15 months at 20 dollars I spend the same 300 dollars.

And if I skip a month or two because of other things so what. For me this is not a race, just a fun hobby :)

Also make plans NOW for the extra scraps of wood etc you WILL be accumulating [trust me on this one ;) LOL ]

I hope that expands on what I said a bit more and maybe helps someone else as well :)

I think Stephen's got something there - kind of a "layaway plan" for model railroaders.

LMAO, layaway plan. That cracked me up. He does have a great idea there, but I never thought of it as a layaway plan. I think of it more like a rent-to-own plan.

Well stop and think about it. As much as we may WANT a huge layout, most of us have small to medium small layouts.
At best we may have two to five really large or "special" buildings to put on the layout.
Ok so you want to do itup right so you decide to make them craftsman types so you get blueprints etc etc. Figure out the approximate cost and then faint at it being over 200 dollars.

Ok so now you spread it out over a few months. In 2 or 3 years you will have 2 or 3 craftsman type buildings. You didn't break the bank, or go nuts trying to meet a deadline etc.

In ten years you could have all 5 or more done easily.

It is not a race guys. Sit back and enjoy. The train people will never notice that that building is not done yet. Only you will notice it. But because you are taking your time and enjoying yourself it almost does not matter how long it takes to finish.

Making the buildings is most of the fun for me. I enjoy it when it is done, but if I didn't make it then I would not enjoy it as much.

Anyhow, I hope this helps those who are poor like myself realize they can also build those high quality buildings. It just takes a little longer is all.
Hek even the high quality kits can take a month to make. And those pieces are already cut for you. SO take your time, this is gonna take a while. :)

    I hope that helps :)
