Nice photos, a SP SD40R, SD45R, SD45T-2 and a SD40T-2! Just a note in case you don't know: SP 5387 was formally DRGW 5387, thats why it has that funky box on the nose, it's where the gyralight was mounted. I think its interesting how they put the SP so low, I've seen a few that they torched off the box and plated over it. Cool pix. Where where these photos taken? I.E. state, etc.
Gadsden, Alabama? Our very own OC Engineer JD works for that RR. Andrew, do you know what the D&RGW had the Gyralites put in that funky box on the nose? Out of 73 Tunnel Motors, only about 6 had those.
Thanks for the info...would love to go down there and see the SP (DRGW) 5387! As for HemiAdda2d's question: The 73 Grande SD40T-2 where delivered in 5 orders, order 4 was for 12 units, #'s 5386-5397 and where delivered in 1978, if I remember correctly, without Gyralights, the Grande added them after they where delivered by welding a box on the low nose. 13 DRGW SD40T-2's where repainted in the SP Speed Lettering scheme. Hope that helps.
just so you know the numberboards on the SP 5387 are not the originals. I was lucky enough to have acquired the original numberboard one day when the shop mechanics were throwing them into the dumpster. mine are the drgw orginals!
Here are some more from my collection. Plus a picture of our very own engineer oc engineer jd . the last photo is an LTEX engine passing thru a horseshoe curve on the ex SAL mainline
The second to last pic above is a northbound train just leaving the street running in downtown Gadsden, AL.
