I have been shadowing this topic over on The Guage. Turned out nice. Looks like a nice, easy two to three night project. Hardest part is finding the right wheels/motive power. From there, scratch a frame, find an auto, and a suitable box, and you're well on your way!
Paul, Nice craftsmanship!!! You've done a quick job and looks great I believe that may have taken me around 2 weeks to build! But It looks great! Nice work....
Paul, You're becoming my favourite model railroad photo guy, and your layout looks fantastic. Too bad you aren't on this side of the pond so I could weasil an invite to see your layout.
Looks great, Paul. What WAS the motive power for the model? I have wondered what you guys use for making a Goose. I'd like to scratch one. Used to do a lot of car modeling scratch, and think I could do it. Thought of using a small switcher chassis, but even that wouldn't fit to scale. Only time I ever saw a Goose for real was at the top of Cumbres Pass on the Cumbres and Toltec in '98, I believe it was. They had brought it down from Denver for a railfanning promo, and it was broken down at the top-overheated or something. It was still something to behold, though. Got a photo of it with the hood (bonnet?) up. My son just stared at it. He had never even seen a photo of one. Thanks. Ship It On The Frisco!
Hi Graphite The motive power started out life as an HO Bachmann San Francisco Cable Car, which also had spoked wheels. After much hacking around with the chassis, I came up with a reasonable facsimile. Front bogie was scratchbuilt, and used N-scale wheels.
Paul, the detail you pack into your layout never ceases to amaze me The first pic is really brought to life by all the 'people'. Excellent!
Paul, once again, just great stuff. I love your craftsmanship. If you ever get over to this side of the pond, one of us must take you to the Colorado RR Museum in Golden where the Geese reside.
fitz my friend, I would love to come over the pond for a visit, not very likely now at my age.(Retired)
Great stuff Paul. If anyone wants to see the real things run, you need to visit Durango the last weekend of August for Railfest. The goose from Dolores, one or maybe two from the Colo. RR Museum, and a great replica of Goose #1 that was built by a guy in Ridgway, will be here. Also, the Eureka will be here as well.
Thanks, Paul, I think I'll try one now. I think I'll need a bit longer to do it though. And then I need an excuse for having a goose out here on the plains........???
