From the Trains Newswire: GE’s Evolution Series has familiar look General Electric’s Evolution Series locomotive doesn’t look all that much different from its AC6000 counterparts. But under the long hood there's a big difference. The Evolution Series generates 4,400 horsepower from a 12-cylinder GEVO diesel engine, compared to the popular 16-cylinder model, and reduces emissions 40 percent. The Evolution Series features a platform that can be upgraded to meet EPA regulations beyond 2005, according to GE Transportation Systems. GE unveiled the new locomotive on Dec. 23 and expects to have production models ready for customers beginning this year, two full years before railroads must comply with the newest federal regulations.
Im not quite sure where they get that, Earlier this year I got to see one under construction at GE, the Radator section has little resemblance to the AC6000 in fact its more of a SD80 crossed with a Dash 9 crossed with a Super 7. Plus the engine hood section is much differnt. Intresting none the less
Yeah photos of these units have been hard to come by and the ones that are out already are quite disapointing in quality.
