Sun from upper right. Current from upper right to lower left, shallow, a couple of small boats, with a pier at lower left. No road traffic visible but no signs of cultivation either.

Dark colored roofs, mostly, so not tropical. Temperate with reasonable rainfall.

My initial take: not third world, not US/CA, not Europe. But, hey... I've been wrong before.

Guesstimating the RR bridge at 500'+/-, the vertical river/lake/bay is a half mile, widening to well over a mile.

The bluff over the site has to be a couple+ thousand ft high.

Looks like a dirt runway? And what is that white stuff on the bluff? And blowing up the last pic isn't much help, but if those are houses at the bottom, then maybe third world.

PS: I decided to look at SE Asia, but Google earth keeps crashing, so I'll emulate the drunk crawling on his hands and knees under a street lamp. A passerby asked him what he was looking for and where did he drop it? "I lost my keys somewhere over there." Why are you looking here then? "The light is better."

Looks like the track goes through a tunnel (as does the road coming in from the right), both then run along the shore-line up out of frame.
I expect this is a river / lake not the ocean - I would expect a much larger settlement on such a nice looking ocean front!
The snow-capped thing top-right could be part of a line of hills / mountains. Which would probably make this a glacier valley :)

I like Russia for this one - it has a large number of rivers with trees and green and snow and so forth. Else eastern europe.

Having roamed across the east of Russia (north of Mongolia etc), I cannot find a match however.

After the 3rd pic, I have to agree. But I buzzed Scandinavia, the Baltic states, Belarus, Ukraine, Romania, Georgia, followed the Volga, Dnepr, Don, Lake Baikal, the Russian coast from the Barents Sea to North Korea. Even Sakhalin Island has a RR.

So, I double checked NA. Not much snow where there are RRs. Looked at BC and Gaspe. Didn't check AK or the White Pass. (Just did...).

It's 2AM... Time to give up

<pulls all the pushpins south of the equator out>
Well, I've buzzed .nz, chunks of south-america, Russia (repeatedly), Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakstan, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, China, Nepal, North Korea, Kashmir, bits of africa (hey, they have snow! just not near any train tracks) ...

This looks to be a fairly large piece of real-estate, so I'm at a loss as to how we could have all missed it thus far... [IMG]

Clouds, Snow, steep lands, a fairly large inlet / lake thing, tunnels. I think the track enters and exits left and right, running along the upper shore of the large lake-bit. Shadows down to the left, so odds are the snow-cap top-right is south.

Yes the snow-capped mountains are to the south. Yes the tracks run left to right or right to left (depending on direction of travel :tb-biggrin:)

ATSF, you buzzed this country...maybe not NORTH enough?? This is above the ARCTIC circle :tb-biggrin:

Definitely not north enough - my interest in Norway sort of ran out at Trondheim, as there can't be anything interesting past there! (I don't think my pattern-match buzz would have seen that anyway, the colours are wrong; which shows how far off I was looking ;) )

Oh well, time to see where Darren sends us next ;)
