okay, to heck with where is it: what is it? I'm seeing a large pile of some sort of mineral; so it's probably an ore-processing plant of some description?
Still not sure what it is, but for the surroundings, *Botom left of the second picture looks like a little race track? *The highways looks like freeway.(I'm guessing North America) *And as ATSF admirer said, there's gravel in the "plant?" or whatever it is. *There's fields and it looks like they were just harvested. But what was harvested? *And there's green folige. My guesses are North America, Eruope, or Germany. P.S. Sorry for the misspelling.
Nice little race track to the bottom left of the second photo. Ripe/harvested crop to the bottom right; and a very annoying-to-find shade of green elsewhere North of the dotted line; but not by much - the shadows go almost straight west, with very little northwards component. Anywhere from +0N to +15deg North it would seem (I've seen shadows go South as high as +4N. Weird) The main road runs into a four-way intersection; not a very American freeway thing to do? Although it does look like a bridge / hill / something to the top right. The piles of scrap are almost sorted by colour; implying there's something going on here; recycling? No smokestacks (but a burnt-looking roof).. I'm guessing south-east-Asia or the Philippines. (Not Italy!)
Sun shadows will go 23 degrees south at high noon on June 21 to an observer on the Equator. The further north the observer moves on that day, the shadow angle will decrease until the sun is directly overhead (virtually no shadow) when the observer stands at 23 degrees North. Likewise, the opposite will be true on December 21 as the observer moves from the Equator to 23 degrees South.
I'm thinking electric arc furnace, due to the lack of stacks. Mike Rowe was working at one recently on Dirty Jobs.
That was a great episode! I liked the Cow Pots show too. I'm thinking smelter/electric furnce too, but I haven't had time to search. Doing what I can to help/confuse everyone!
I don't need help!! I'm confused enough already!! I'd have spent the weekend searching more, but I had a train show I had to go to instead! And get myself deeper in trouble, as I found a couple more G Scale goodies to add to my ever growing collection of "stuff". Now up to 4 locomotives, 2 cars, caboose and a wedge plow.Outside set up on patio soon to come! As will outdoor running of trains!
Keith: So, how are the options for G-scale snow out your way? Hytec: of course, the inclination of the planet (23.5deg). should have thought of that. Largely to blame for the fact y'all above the dotted line get better summers than we do. I can't see the baseball field; but 23 degrees above the dotted line assuming high-summer (probably early autumn actually - the crops are harvested / ready to harvest) and lots of yellow crops. I've seen that shade of Green around Kansas; although the crops don't look circular. I suspect there's a larger town to the left. (edit: found Kansas on a map, and it starts at 37deg North; so assuming I'm right about this whole shadow and equator thing, it ain't there; and indeed most of the US of A is too far north ) Which just leaves me to wonder why the freeway / highway would split in twain and go around the little white boxes? happy hunting!
No snow, and nothing in the near future either. Which is fine, as it'll give me time to move my track out to the back patio!! In the 40's and 50's this week. Near 60 by Sunday/Monday, last I heard. Give it time though, and it'll change.
That's what it is alright! I watched that episode of Dirty Jobs just the other night.. That show is cool! I only have one more photo clue to give, So...........
Ok last clues guys! Here's a facility that is less than 3 miles south of the Steel Mill. For a large airplane maybe?
