Definitely an area with a huge tidal swing, or one suffering a terrible drought. Either way, I don't know where it is and if I did, I couldn't say anyway biggrin:
Wow Scott, I thought someone would have gotten this one by now. I'm exempt, since I submitted it :tb-biggrin: A little history... my grandfather worked the bridge for over 10 years in the 50's. It was kept closed for train traffic, and opened anytime a boat had to pass. My father said that at night they had lanterns lit at the ends of the bridge and on the trestles, and my grandfather had to line up those lanterns after letting a boat pass, which lined up the tracks.:tb-smile: -Mike
Geez....thought I would never find that one. :membarrassed: I must say that the typical clues used to locate the area are kinda skewed in this one. Good one Pastoolio!!
Winner GEC#I043 Congratulations! Keith :tb-cool: Novato, California Location submitted by Pastoolio
This one had some good clues in it that skewed the "normal" searching. First, the shadows are coming from an angle that would indicate a more southern location. Second, the high resolution typically means a more dense population base nearby yet it looked to be out in the middle of nowhere with a lower density. Lastly, the bogs/swamps/wetlands aren't "typically" found in the Western US. I have to admit, I searched everywhere from Austrailia to S. America until Pastoolio's clue about his grandfather working on the bridge. I then guessed that it was probably in the US somewhere and searched all over the south. Just by chance did I think to look that far north in CA. This was a good one. Welcome to the ADVANCED and EXPERT levels now Keith!!
Congrats Keith! =) The area where the bridge is located is called Black Point to the locals and my grandparents live right up the street. Been to that bridge quite a few times in my life. All those dock walkways are over low lying swampish areas. The tracks are ex-Southern Pacific/Northwestern Pacific. They haven't been in use since '00/'01, can't remember. Anyhow, here is a pic of driving over the highway bridge next to it. My grandparents house up in the hills behind the bridge. -Mike
